Business credit

Your company credit score: how to read the wider picture

Understand what a business credit report can contain, check the company identity and separate a score from a lending decision.

Felix considering the question
Felix’s first questionWhat is behind the headline number?

Quick answer

Does a good business credit score mean funding is approved?

No. A company credit score summarises information under one reporting agency’s model. A lender may also assess current trading, affordability, commitments, security and the proposal itself. Use a report to identify information to check and questions to answer, rather than treating the score as an approved borrowing limit.

Key points

  • Company identity and report date belong beside the score.
  • Different agencies can use different models and scales.
  • An agency’s suggested credit limit is not a lender’s offer.
  • Felix does not currently display live Creditsafe reports.

Check which company and which report you are reading

Start with the registered name, company number and report date. Similar trading names can make the wrong record look plausible. If the company has changed name or uses a separate trading style, reconcile those details before interpreting the financial information.

Keep the agency’s score scale and explanation with the number. A score without its provider, date and meaning is incomplete. Avoid comparing two numbers from different systems as though they used an identical scale. The useful question is what the specific report says and what information it relies on.

Look beyond the headline number

Creditsafe describes company reports containing business identity, financial information and credit-risk information [1]. Depending on the report and company, you may see filing details, payment information or legal events. Read the explanation accompanying each field, including whether an item is absent, unavailable or actually recorded as clear.

Make a short list of facts you recognise, items that need explanation and details that appear wrong. A missing recent trading figure is not the same thing as evidence that the business has stopped trading. Public filings and current management information can cover different periods.

Separate three different kinds of number

A reporting agency’s risk score, a suggested trade-credit limit and a lender’s borrowing assessment serve different purposes. A supplier using a report to decide payment terms is answering a different question from a lender considering a multi-year facility.

Do not turn a trade-credit recommendation into a loan amount. Instead, take the report to the funding conversation alongside current bank and trading information. Ask which items the broker or lender needs to clarify and whether additional information could explain a change since the last filed accounts.

Report itemHow to use it
Risk scoreRead the agency’s scale and date.
Suggested trade-credit limitUnderstand its intended use; it is not a loan offer.
Financial informationCheck the reporting period and company identity.
Payment or legal informationVerify the event and its current status.

What if something appears incorrect?

Keep a copy of the report reference and the item you dispute. Gather supporting evidence and contact the relevant reporting agency through its correction process. If the underlying public record is wrong, establish which organisation maintains that record and how to correct it.

Track the response and any refreshed report date. Paying an outstanding amount, changing a filing or correcting a mistake may involve separate steps and updates. Avoid anyone promising an instant guaranteed score increase from a single action. The aim is accurate, current information.

What can Felix’s business credit section do today?

The current site explains company credit and saves a request to discuss a report. It does not retrieve a live Creditsafe score, run a personal credit search or use a demonstration number as your result. The report area states this connection status visibly.

A live service would need authorised provider access and an agreed process for the requester, company match and report use. Mo’s existing access may be a route to explore, but an ordinary account alone does not establish public API or display permissions. Until that is connected, the educational content and conversation request are the real available features.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers

Is a company score my personal credit score?

No. They concern different records and may be assessed separately in a later application.

Can Felix show my live company score now?

No. Live report retrieval is not connected. You can request a conversation about the report.

Does a score guarantee approval?

No. A lender performs its own assessment of the business and proposal.
